Unless you are extremely worried about this I would advise you to stick with a free and clear detergent from a regular brand. I use All Free and Clear, as I did with my youngest. Dreft is very good for children and even adults with severely sensitive skin... but it costs ALOT more. The free and clear types take the fragrance and irritants out of the equation and that's really all you need to do, not to mention Dreft doesnt get stains out and baby spit up does stain badly You can also use it for the whole baby. Good luck, try the free and clear and if you see it is bothering your baby switch to Dreft. As for fabric softener I would also say a fragrance free one will work just fine.

I switched to All Free and Clear so I could use it for the whole family. All also makes a good smelling baby detergent. I stayed away from fabric softeners until 6 months, and then started using the Downy Free liquid stuff.

Baby clothes are soo soft. They really don't need softener. Dreft smells wonderful so it's not a bad choice!

Ivory Snow, you dont want to take the chance and find out your baby has sensitive skin when he or she breaks out into a rash,it is cheap at wal-mart,small cost for a piece of mind and the comfort of your new baby.I find Downy has the best softner, just make sure you get the unsented and do an extra rinse cycle with every wash and do not use soft stat sheets.I have never heard of Dreft,i am from Canada so it may be the same as Ivory.Good luck and congrats!!

Dreft

Unless your baby has a skin problem like an allergic reaction or ecezma, don't bother. Just use your regular detergent and give the baby's clothes a second rinse cycle. Those fancy "baby" detergents like Dreft aren't worth the cost.

My family has sensitive skin.
Dreft, Target brand Dreft, Ivory Snow and Baby All - tried them all
Use the fragrant free brand names that you trust already (and may even have coupons). Tide free and All free and clear for example. They cost less than Dreft and can be used for the whole family. Any fragrance free fabric softner (I like downey liquid the best).

We use Tide Free 0- it's less expensive than the baby detergents and it washes out completely. A good point to note - if your baby has sensitive skin pediatricians often recommend double rinsing your baby's clothing regardless of the detergent you use.

We don't use a softener at all as our little guy has really sensitive skin. I haven't noticed it to be a problem at all.

I use Ivory Snow...most of the time. Other stuff doesn't seem to bother my baby, but you never know, everyone is different. I vory Snow is awesome. You can also take a soap for washing the baby like Baby's Own and use a cheese grater to grate some of it into the washing machine. Works perfect. And it's cheaper than anything else.

I use Dreft. I don't use dryer sheets because I think the kind I have for my laundry are too strong but I am sure they make some that are lighter if you would like to have them. Congrats!

I have always used dreft to was the clothes when they where little, but liquid fabric softeners reduce the flame retardant in childrens clothes it is safer to use a bounce sheet instead!
