I have a friend who wants me to go to court and lie to help his case. I refused to do it. Now he and his friends think that I do not love him enough that something must be wrong. Help?

Don't lie in court. It is illegal.

I dont see what the problem is.
You tell your friend and his friends that they are correct, you do NOT love him enough to risk jail time for something wrong that they did.
If you do go to court and lie on the stand (under oath) you could go to jail for FIVE YEARS for perjury. If you lie and you are unsucessful and it is exposed in court (which it probably would be)
He will probably get convicted based on his desperate idea to have you lie for him.
if you get caught then the two of you could NEVER be able to share a cell and once convicted you would never be able to date him again anyway as felons are not allowed to associate with other felons.
At least if he gets convicted you can still visit
(not that you would want to)
I hope that you are taking the time to evaluate what this relationship means to you.
There are plenty of men around that have NO pending charges and are not likely to get any.
Might be a good idea to think about upgrading the class of company you keep.
p.s. If the friends are such good friends, WHY DONT THEY LIE FOR HIM?
(I would bet it would be a Kodak moment when you ask THAT question)
If says if you loved me you would do it, tell him if he loved YOU he would have been home with you in the first place instead of out committing crimes and ifhe did that then he would not even have to ask and that your next boyfriend would never have to ask that question because you will be sure to pick someone without a pending record!

Lying in court is called perjury and you could be punished for it. Also, if you are found out, you could be charged with obstruction of justice as well as perjury. Loving someone doesn't require you to lie for him. Best thing you can do is not to go to court or testify without a subpoena. Then you won't have to lie or tell the truth. If he loved you, he wouldn't ask you to put yourself in jeopardy to help him.

If he loved you, he would not ask you to commit a crime-perjury. Do not let anyone force you into doing what you know is wrong. Find some different friends! They're trying to pressure you into doing something stupid. Get a bf that has some respect for you. And good for you, respect yourself.

if you lie in a criminal case you could get up to 10 years in prison for lying for the defense, if you lie for the prosecution, there is not a recorded case when anyone was even tried , certainly no time given, you can be tried and convicted for lying in a civil case but seldom,

You have to decide whether going to jail is worth your friendship. Lying in court is called perjury and it is punishable by law and you could go to jail. Ask your friend is he willing to go to jail for you? Then u decide whether you want to lie in court for him

Understand that your supposed friend is not a real friend. He can be a man and take responsibility for his actions.
