The male can easiely get out of the marriage, by killing his wife (which happens ofter especially in India after the brides family can no longer pay the glooms family a dowery). or aranging other means equally harmful such as selling her to relatives or friends as a second, 4th or 10th wife.

INterestingly enough, "arranged" marriages have a much higher success rate than vs.
I read that normally (or in many cases) that there would be a couple to a small few that they introduce them to, for them to find out from that sm. selection which one they are most compatible.
