Fill your car all the way up to the top. Reset your trip odometer before you leave the gas station. Drive around until you need more gas. Then fill your car all the way up to the top again. Divide the miles you put on your car since you filled up last by the amount of gallons you just put in your car. This will give your MPG (miles per gallon) this is how many miles you can go on one gallon. Unless your truck is a hybrid (which I doubt) it will get slightly better mileage on highways or long trips than it will in the city. Resetting your trip odometer will also help you figure out how far you can go on one tank of gas, so you can figure out how many times you will need to fill up to make it to your destination.

It must be remembered that it is practically impossible to fill an automobile's gas tank to exactly the same level every time. Also, the more data that is collected, the more accurate the answer will be.
Step 1: Put a small notepad and pen/pencil into your glove box.
Step 2: Go to the gas station and pull up to the pump.
Step 3: Fill the car with fuel.
Step 4: Write down the mileage – including the tenths of miles.
Step 5: Operate your vehicle normally until you need fuel again, then go to the gas station.
Step 6: Fill your tank again and write down the mileage and the number of gallons – including the tenths of miles and gallons.
Step 7: Repeat steps 5 and 6.
Step 8: Repeat steps 5 and 6.
Step 9: Go to the gas station and fill your tank, again noting the mileage and fuel added.
Step 10: Take the first mileage number and subtract it from the current mileage number.
Step 11: Sum all the fuel added since you started your record keeping.
Step 12: Divide the total number of miles by the total number of gallons. This is your mileage, and it will be pretty accurate.

Example: Ending mileage=2,500 MINUS Starting mileage=1,000 EQUALS 1,500 miles DIVIDED by 50 gallons of fuel EQUALS 30 miles per gallon.

OK.. First off Hello. I best answer Is this. I live In NYC and occasionally travel to Virginia Beach VA. You said 2,481.9 miles. Whoa'' My trip Is roughly under 400 miles and takes almost 8 hours. It Is two full tanks of gas at around 2.61$ a gallon. I use almost 28 gallons so I spent about 73.08$ on my trip with alittle gas left over. Judging your distance with the same amount of gas amount per gallon, I would say 6 1/2 times what I spend. :400 miles from me times 6 1/2x for you equals roughly 473.48$ on just gas. Make sure to bring lots of extra money, small dried meals and water. Tools, first aide. check the tires every 400 miles, they deflate alittle and antifreeze. Last have a wonderful trip and go with God. Hope I helped

what kinda truck? mine gets 17 miles a gallon, so it would be a good amount more than the above mentioned $372 at 25 mpg and $3 a gallon. ha don't judge me it's a wrangler.

Assuming the worst, that your truck gets 20 miles to the gallon and gas is 3.00 a gallon, it would be $372.00. If it is 25 miles a gallon at 2.50 a gallon then it would be $250.00.

It all depends how many MPG your vehicle gets. You should be able to do some research online to find out how much MPG your truck gets. Go from there to add it up.
