Wound healing requires oxygen delivery to the wound bed and prevention of wound infection. Salt water would cause dehydration of the tissues and decreased blood flow (ie decreased oxygen) to the tissues. So I would avoid salt water.
Instead, I would keep the wound very clean with soap and water. I wouldn't use peroxide because while that kills bacteria, it also inhibits growth of granulation tissue, the healing tissue that fills wound in. After washing the wound copiously with mild soap and water, I would pat it dry, apply antibiotic ointment such as bacitrain or neosporin, and loosely cover the wound with sterile gauze.
If you drilled a hole in your hand that deep and are having any motor or sensory deficits, you should be evaluated by a hand surgeon.

It would be better if you cleaned the wound with peroxide daily, then apply triple anibiotic cream and a bandaid. This will take some time to heal d/t the size, but it will eventually close and stay clean in the process. Keep in mind that if this does get infected, please see your doc for an oral antibiotic.

Bag Balm! Wash the paw with cleansing soap and water and note some BB. (in case you stay close to united states of america, you'll locate it at feed shops and typically Walmart. once you're in a city you've were given to seem it up on line and order it.) My bf's canines tried to dig his way out of a crate once and wore all of his ft all the way down to pink pores and skin. some days with the Bag Balm and his ft appeared large! i recognize it made him experience more desirable too, because it were given to placed on he'd see the tin and flop over on his aspect and stick his ft out for me. also, after that's healed, they have something referred to as Musher's secret. that's the paw wax they use for sled canines, it coats, seals, moisturizes, and protects the canines's ft. possibly it truly is something you would possibly want to seem into. you may also proceed to apply BB on his ft wide-spread to maintain them comfortable and forestall cracking.
