That was Todd Rundgren, singing "I Saw The Light" from his first solo album "Something/Anything". He's had a long career as a performer and producer, starting in the mid '60's with The Nazz. After that he went solo, and after a few albums formed Utopia. They were sort of fusion/world/rock band (if that sounds possible). Now he's just become the new frontman for The Cars, who are recording and getting ready to hit the road sometime this year.
