Not "I dont like spiders" Unless they really make you have palpatations.

Real psychological fears.
Eg, I blacked out driving once, luckily at night, and I ditched with no-one else on the road.
But now, driving, especially rush hour and motorways, can give me the naff stomach and the odd nervous hand shake. Nowhere near as bad as 18 months ago when it happened, but it's still at the back of my mind.
Perish the thought I ever black out again and put someone elses life at risk.

Anybody have "concerns/anxieties" about aspects of their life, and how did you get them?

Don't panic wagon, it was overwork and a one off. medically fit to drive for the last 17 months. Just can't shake that "what if?" effect.

Sorry to disappoint Vida, If the best our medical services have to offer say I'm fit to drive,as do the people who provide my insurance, I think I'm going to lean towards their expert opinion as opposed to yours. Thanks for the concern though.

I have Generalized Anxiety Disorder, along with panic/anxiety attacks. I used to have a severe case of it, now very mild thanks to Effexor (and a long and painful history of Zoloft, Paxil, and Lexapro).

My main fears are:

Fear of insanity (Agateophobia)
Fear of sexual abuse (Agraphobia)
Fear of amphibians (Batrachophobia)
Fear of sleeping (Clinophobia)
Fear of being alone (Isolophobia)
Fear of memories (Mnemophobia)
Fear of mice (Suriphobia)
Fear of religion (Theophobia)

Now, all of these things can be associated with typical uneasiness or fear, but these cause me a great deal of stress. Especially the fear of memories, religion, and insanity...

I sort of understand your fear, too. Every time I have a bad experience with something, I get afraid of it in the future. I have a fear of driving automatic cars! It's silly.

It's bizarre, but I went through a phase where I had a real phobia of limosuines. One day I saw one and I literally froze in terror, and for the next few years I would get the same thing- my heart would stop and I would be overcome with fear upon seeing one!!! Completely random, it just happened overnight. The only thing I could think of was that I'd had a nightmare which features a limo and the association somehow embedded itself in my mind?

As for anxieties, I'm full of them. If I really sit and think about the inevitable fact that I'm going to die, I feel so panicked and afraid that I can't move. Most of the time I have a mental block on it- my mind won't go there. Weird huh?

Ah well, nice to see I'm not the only crazy person here! :)

I have a fear of pain in circumstances where it can be anticipated and predicted. This has led to more specific fears, such as potentially painful medical examinations and, when there isn’t use of local anaesthetic, injections.

I believe my particular fear to be perfectly logical in the first instance but, nonetheless, blown out of proportion. It is also a rather banal and ego-bruising aspect of my character that I know I should try to transcend. However, in the grand scheme of things I have to do, this task isn’t actually a priority.

OCD is an anxiety disorder of many things in life. I have washed my hands to the point that they bleed. My OCD resulted form genetics and watching my parents and grandparents activities. I can hardly bring my self to use a public restroom or pump gas. If I do manage to do either, I work myself into hysterics about the germs that I have as a result. I consider that a concern/anxiety about life.

Yes, Social Anxiety is a fear you're not gonna stand-up for yourself, or be able to handle a situation. Shyness is a behavior, but essentially it's also because you're easily startled, and scared you can't handle yourself in public.

I suffer from anxiety attacks. They are quite terrifying if you don't know what they are. I've had them happen in restaurants, driving, at work. Feels like you're either going to pass out completely or you are suffering a heart attack. I could have a stressful day, feel as though I got over it, and then when I'm trying to relax is when they hit me.

I know you asked about phobias but are you sure you should be driving if you had a blackout? I don't think your insurance company would cover you!

I have phobias, most people do, but I can't answer because "I perish the thought if you ever black out again and put someone elses life at risk" too - in fact I can't believe you have even said it and I hope you are not for real!

I have anxiety about little dogs (Chihuahuas and Pomeranians...)

If I turn my back on the dog when he/she is all excited- barking, growling, etc, I'm afraid the dog will tear out my achelles tendon...

Yeah, I know, it's dumb, but... Somewhere between those tiny sharp teeth, and the story I heard in History class about slave owners who would cut a runaway slave's achelles tendon to prevent a repeat....
It doesn't cause papatations or shortness of breath, but I avoid turning my back on the dogs...

I think most of us have a fear of something or other, and the people that claim they dont, just wont admit it! I have a fear of sharks, boats, and water for some reason? Im not real fond of going on a cruise! Only trains, planes and automobiles!!!
