Excellent. You know the simple-minded guy who goes ballistic and kills the sergeant is the same guy from Law and Order: Criminal Intent. (Vincent D'Onofrio)

I think "Apocalypse Now" is a better film. The problem with "Full Metal Jacket" is it's structure: it's essentially two different films, the boot camp section and the 'in-country' Vietnam section, slapped together. If not for Joker being in both halves, there would be nothing linking them; they are completely different in tone, and all the tension Kubrick built up which climaxed with the bathroom scene is gone, and is never referenced again. The only novel part of the movie is the boot camp segment, which is why it's remembered so well. The second half of the film is another "horrors of Vietnam" piece, which "Casualties of War" and, even more prominently, "Platoon", had already shown us. Which isn't to say it's a bad film, it certainly isn't; but it does have it's faults.

Awesome flick...........the cast and writing were excellent. Especially R. Lee Ermey as the drill instructor.

I never really watch after the part where he kills himself, because it just goes down hill from there. But the before he kills himself, it's great.
