the fuel pump seem fine but stop pumping enough fuel into carburator after running for a mile or so. will start after a short while and do the same.

I would suspect the tank has rust in it or other contamination other wise the pump is defective.I seen a problem like that once in a72 pinto and the intake manifold had cracked from hitting a big pothole,whenever the engine got hot it would quit running.Good luck

Change the fuel filter. Check your fuel lines. On a bug that old the flexible fuel lines become porous. Check the line that comes to the fuel pump and the one from the fuel tank.
The fuel pump maybe defective.

Check to see if the float in the carb is sticking, the float needle could be getting stuck in the closed position and not allowing the fuel to get into the carb or the float itself may be sticking in the full position. it may need a rebuild, if that doesn't work, buy an aftermarket electric pump to replace the stock pump to get the fuel in place.

Take the hose off and put to a glass jar. Have someone crank the engine and look for good solid squirts. this should help you determine if thr pump is at fault.
