character's that were African-American didn't show until closer to the early 90's hit . as in the 70's and 80's to be correct. and mostly some what befor tthe 80's. with bam bam and pebble's as teens in their own cartoon in the 70's. the early1970s spinoff The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show and as an adult in two made-for-television movies. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Pebbles_and_Bamm-Bamm_Show
and they later made flint stone kid's with Fred Barny and Wilma and Betty as little kids and every one they knew form the original series. and added a some black character's Ianthe show one black kid even hug out and looked like mister slate even though Mr. slate was kid in that show as well. this was also during the period that original teen age mutant ninja turtles was still running. it was later with other flint stone shows like Christmas specials, we saw a black cop ( Philo Quartz)that knew Fred , when he played scrooge in a Flint stones Christmas carol. which he came from the flintstone kids show and other series that were made to have the flint stones make come back. but the producers would keep switching the show time slot's around ON channel's like ABC and the shows died cause they always putting show like home improvement or saved by the bell or other shows that had nothing to do for teens or kids. . so what can you do? but the did have them just not in the early year's when they first started. butthey had black people eventually.
And please look up the show flint stone kid's in a search and you'll see I'm tell ing the truth. about what I said. otry and find those show's andthe chrismas movie I mentioned.
Here's one place to search.

Nearly as I can tell, The Flintstones were set in a time when America was an uninhabited continent, for the most part. OK 2 continents.
It was also apparently a time when there was no intelligent life on the planet, much like today.
But do you mean the Black race, as some people are called?
In fact, there was one where the 'stones were going camping at a remote camp site called Shangri-la-di-da.
remote and untouched, until they woke up the next morning and there was a Boy Scout Jamboree going on around them.
It ended up with the 'stones singing Old MacDonald with a mess of Scouts from all different races, including some from African nations.
Please don't make me bust my brains by going back and watching more Flinstones just to find out...
no ono anything but that...

How could there be? The Flintstones would have taken place before the US (America) was officially a country.

no, because tecnically, black people came from one of noah's sons. And, cavemen lived before noah...so if they put a black person on there, it would be inaccurate.
