hi i have baby number 4 the first 3 were bottle fed, and she hasnt put on very much weight she weighs 8and a half pounds at the moment and she is six weeks old she was 8 pound when she was born and she did get down to 7pound1 in the first 2 weeks as she was very jaundiced should i be rushing out to buy formula or is this normal,
i am using both breasts each time and she feeds every 2-3 hours and has heaps wet nappies

Try feeding her more often. Also, ignore the clock. Let your baby nurse whenever she wants, that is the best way for her to gain weight.
Breastmilk digest faster than fake milk, so she may need to eat every hour for a while.

Avoid all bottles and dummies too. Let her satisfy all her suckling needs at the breast.

Try block nursing; nurse on the same side for a few feeds. This is to be sure she is getting the fatty hindmilk.

Breastmilk is actually More calorie dense than formula, plus it is free. Save your money and buy or rent a good pump and a SNS (supplemental nursing system). You can fortify your own milk and feed it to her while she nurses. You let the pumped milk separate, skim the fat off the top and add it to a later container of breastmilk!

the same thing happened to me. I ended up changing to formula after 3 months of him not putting weight on. He put on weight straight away. Babies are supposed to put on something like 250 grams a week.
