Keep it simple for a first birthday. I know thats hard as it is exciting to celebrate your babies first year. However they are still little. First of all they will not remember it. Second you do not want to overwhelm her too much. You have a lot of future birthdays where you can go all out. My advise to you is to keep the first one simple and easy. A family bbq, a trip to a restaurant. Even a place like Chuck E Cheese would be fun but it is a little much on her. Too much overstimulation exhausts babies and you do not want her getting crabby at her party. Plus there is not a lot there she can do.
Why spend a lot of money when you can have a great family get together?
Trust me once she hits four you will have plenty of suggestions from her and she will think you will need to spend lots of money!!!

We had a picnic style party for my son, we picked a favourite location, set up a gazebo, tables and brought along the cake and finger food..we also had balloons on sticks in the ground and a small jumping castle for the kids.It was a lot of work, but it was easy to clean up and not stressful because it wasnt at home, it was a nice sunny day and all the family and friends brought their own chairs or blankets. Got lots of great photos and memories..it was fun and i will do the same for our daughter.

Your baby won't remember this but if you're like me you want to take pics and have the memories for her to look back on.

We did the basic Chuck E Cheese party. There is a baby area that my daughter just loved (as she was too little to enjoy anything else). And it gave the big kids something to look forward to and have fun with. Plus you can do this in any season/weather.

McDonald's Playplace....not necessarily good for a 1 year old but all her friends will love it!

At your house...but you'll have to find entertainers, cook food, decorate....

A tradition in my family is to make a cake for the family and a cupcake for the baby . In no time, there's a chocolate-covered baby.
