Me my brother and dad all have a cingular family plan. My dad lost his cell phone when he went on vaction to mexico so he went and bought a new one from the cingular office in my area. I like his new phone and he said he will give it to me since he doesn't care about it, all he wants is to keep his original #. So my question is can I manually take out the sim cards of both phones and switch it? will that work so he can keep his original # and I can get his new phone or do we have to go back to the office?

Yup u can do that. As long as ur using a cingular phone and a cingular sim card u can place it into any phone u like (that is cingular) and u will still keep ur number. But remember to save all ur contacts onto ur sim so that u will be able to have them on ur new phone.
