I asked this question for the benefit of straight people so they can realize there is more to the gay community than just sex.

We actually have intellectual, sporting and (gasp) leisure-based groups, too......

Yes, there are here....in fact several.

We have groups that eat together a couple nights a week, there's a group that plays cards, a couple of different athletic groups, political and religious groups.

Most communities of any size do. (I'm in a small/mid size mid-western town.)

The City of Philadelphia has quite a few groups like this. Even Musical Groups.

The Spruce Street Singers, The Philadelphia Gay Mens' Chorus

Just to name a couple.

I know that where I live there are a gay men's chorus, a lesbian chorus, plus some sports groups and GLBT discussion groups as well. I'm glad I live in a fairly big city where these services can be accessed by those who wish to do so. I mean, I'm straight, so I'm out (pardon the pun) as a far as membership to these groups go, but more power to them. :)

At the university but of course some people are going to be attracted to each other. Also, 45 minutes away in the bigger city they have organizations that get together

Anton's right, I dorm just down the street from the Philly GLBT chorus.
That'd be kind of sad if there were no gay groups that weren't related to sex.
