This is for all music fans(especiall hip hop/ rap fans.) Has learning to play an instrument totally changed your choice of music? Are there any current hip hop or rap fans who play music instruments(not djs.) I noticed as soon as I started to learn to play guitar I immediately caught on to classic rock and its been my favorite music for the last 8 years. What do you guys think?

It has changed mine alot! when i learned the bass, i looked up artists that had good bass lines... and found some of my favorite artists. including Death From Above 1979, and some other ones. When i learned the piano i came across ben folds and ben harper. When i learned the saxiphones, i leared about john coltrane, the count, and miles davis. When i picked up the quitar i started listening to metal and classic rock with Pink Floyd, led zepplin, and all them. Please pick me.... i spent a long time typing this.

I agree with you. When you learn to play an instrument you learn to appreciate the effort put forth by other musicians on that particular instrument. When I was in high school I played sax and even though a lot of people make fun of kenny g, I know what he does is really hard difficult stuff that takes real talent to do. Then when I met my husband he taught me guitar and like you I really got into classic rock. I went from listening to Eve and DMX to listening to Zeppelin and Floyd. It really is crazy but I think it's the ability to appreciate what they're doing and the talent it takes to make that kind of music.

When I learned to play the flute I got turned on to classical music. I didn't know about all the inticacies and highs and lows of it until then. Now I listen to just about anything whereas before I only listened to Alternitive Rock. It opened my eyes to the world of music.

I've played the violin since I was 8 years old. While my degree is in music, and I have a love of classical, I gotta have my modern music!! Never changed my preference.

I dont know if was the interment that did it for me. I was 11 when i first got my bass, and before then i listened to backstreet boys hip hop crap.. i think it all that went away with age, when i started to have my own oppions about the world. snice then ive picked up anything i could get my hands on.. and to me truely rock is the only real to me. i dont do the fake singin or computer made music.

There you go, you learn to appreciate music that has some actual musicians playing it. My fave music is prog rock, that is where the most accomplished players are, like classically trained musicians..

It did change my preferences! I grew up listening to hip hop. Then I got involved in band in school. I'm a sucker for Four Seasons anytime! Especially Spring......

I haven't ever listened to hip ho or rap, but since I started playing piano, it gives me an apreassiation for all music even if I don't like it. and it gives me great respect for people who play piano well.
