There are so many options for this problem that it is difficult to answer.

1) Is your computer actually able to open the files on the CD? Do you have any Non-Word/RTF files that it are opening without any problem? Some CDs do not open on some computers. (I copied some .jpg's to a CD for someone and they tried to access them on 5 different computers before they actually were able to open the files.)

2) What version of WORD were the documents created in, and what version of WORD are you trying to open the documents with? It is much easier, for example, for WORD 2003 to open a WORD '97 Document than vice versa.

3) Sometimes this happens when you do not have the FONT installed that the document was created in.
