Becoming a better writer means broadening your horizons. Read several different genres to better educate yourself on the different writing styles out there. You might also be able to find a local writers' group in your area that meets weekly or monthly to talk about writing. I joined a critique group about four years ago and last May my first book was published. The critique group had writers from every walk of life. They also wrote several different types of stories. I would also reccomend writing for at least half an hour every day on any topic, story or poem you'd like. To become a better writer you must hone and exercise your mind. Keep a dictionary and thesaurus near by to keep your vocabulary fresh and accurate. Good luck! And remember, nothing you write will ever be perfect on the first draft. Re-read, re-edit, and when you feel you've done the best you can have someone else read and edit it.

If you asking how to become a better writer the answer is to write , write , and do it again; now if your talking about doing it for a living then a good way to start is with a local newspaper and cover some subject you like, sports food etc. and offer your services for free Just GET PUBLISHED.
Then you can start working on your own ideas. I started with travel articles for local magazines and now I get to pick were I want to go./ at the same time I pick a subject I like, and write about it and submit it to what ever publication will pay me.I also write first person articles this is a good subject sine its about you and your experiances.
Try taking a creative writing class at a local school. You will learn how to create a story and then you get to read it out-loud to the class, you will find out at this toime if you can touch your fellow students. At the same time you will help yourself discover if you have the talent. REMEMBER you must be willing to except REJECTIONS!!!!!!!!!!
A good starting book, "If you can talk, you can write." GO for it as long as you keep in mind it will take many years to become an overnight success.

1. Read lots of advanced books. If you are writing mystery novels, for example, read mystery novels and about forensic psychology and research. If you are doing Sci-Fi, buy a "how to write sci-fi for dummies book" (there are such things, my friend had one" and read good books like those from Isaac Asimov: note Sci-Fi is a very hard genre to write well.
2. Enter several ones writing contests. Start with poetry contests to get your grammar and style down very well, then move on to full book contest: the internet and writing clubs (such as those at meetup.com) are a great place to start.
3. Do lots of free-form writing. Answering questions on Yahoo! answers and writing Blog's/online-journals are great for this.
4. Read a few pages of the dictionary a day and memorize words you find interesting. Having a large vocabulary makes it much easier to be expressive in writing.
5. For everything you write, read over each sentence several times and see if you can find a shorter way to say the same thing. Being brief is very important in writing to hold a reader's attention span.
6. Practice creative use of metaphors and emotions from everyday life. For example you might read about the history of the Cambodian Revolution (where the old were killed to keep the young from learning their skills/knowledge of resisting dictatorship (as being immoral) from the young)...and write a book where a major character trying to take over a company (metaphor for government) burns old company books explaining laws of stock trading (books would be a metaphor for knowledge of older people). Even classics like "Fahrenheit 451" (has a similar plot) and George Orwell's Animal Farm takes strongly off events in history and current events at the times the book was made.
Best luck man!

Well, I became a better writer by practicing. The way I did it was by keeping a diary. It's good to let out your emotions, whether they are happy or sad. I wrote in it everyday, so my writing became better everyday. Hope this helped. See Ya!!

An easy exercise is to pick a book you like and write out the first three pages by hand. You'll see every bit of description, character development and the beginnings of the plot. You apply what you've learned to your own writing.
