My friend & I were discussing marriage a few nights ago, and he thinks that celebrities don't stay together. I have noticed; however, that the further from the direct spotlight the couple is, the more likely they are to not break up. Unfortunately, all the couples I might have used for an example have recently split up. So, can anyone give me a hand and help me win this argument???

By the way, I'm kinda shocked at how negative you guys seem to be! I mean I know divorce is more common now, but there's gotta be hope for some couples or what's the point of getting married?

Tom hanks and Jeff Foxworthy has been married with their wives with children for over 13 years. I believe Tom hanks is going on or around 18 or so years.
I do agree, celebrities are not happy and they believe marriage will give them that happiness they are seeking.
Whether famous or not, some people live in fairytales when they get married until reality sets in with bills, different views and people's in business.

No. People get married at the drop of a hat. It's all about the rock on the finger, the big white dress and the party afterwards. People don't have the maturity or the intention of staying true to marriage vows anyway. It's looks good on paper and in the movies but it doesn't work well in the real world, does it?
I've been married for 30 years and I'm completely and totally miserable.

I sat and thought for awhile. I know a couple that were high school sweethearts and are still married (some 10-12 years later), my parents were married for almost 50 years, my inlaws have been married 51 going on 52 years, i know 2 couples that came close to getting divorced but went to counseling to resolve issues and they have stayed together (stronger than ever), um...
but you were talking about celebrities - what about Julia Roberts and whoever she is with? I dont even recall if they are married. What about Johnny & june carter cash? Tim McGraw & faith hill..... Amy Grant & Vince Gill......Toby Keith & his wife....George Strait & his wife.... I cant think of anyone else!! Hope this helps!!

I think divorce is more common now. Celebs particularly seem to think marriage vows are disposable. Not good examples for the most part.
I think the thing about marriage is to know that you won't always be happy. The mindset has to be that what ever happens, short of physical, mental or drug abuse, things can be worked out.
Good lasting marriages do not just happen, it takes commitment and willingness to nurture a relationship.

It's always been common for celeb relationships to be relatively short lived...but you can still find couples today that have been together 20, 30, 40, 50 yrs...
people just feel less obligation nowadays to stay in a marriage "for the kids" or if it's not working out....this life is too short to waste it if the love is gone, and not fair to either party to feel they 'have' to stay together even if they both desire to move on...

of direction. surely, the so called intense divorce fee documents do not fairly tell the actual tale. If someone divorces as quickly as, she or he's lots extra in all probability to divorce lower back, and lower back. once you marry for the 1st time, the percentages are on your want which you will stay married to that person for existence. My husband and that i've got been married 34 years and all of us understand many people who've been married only as quickly as. All marriages have their united statesand downs and that i could say that maximum folk evaluate divorce for the time of their marriages. even if, in maximum situations, in the event that they stick it out, issues get extra helpful. The mark of a stable marriage isn't that there is in no way any strife, yet that the solid situations outweigh the undesirable. the reality is that existence, itself, despite in case you're married or not, has its united statesand downs, and it is not common to blame the guy who shares your existence for all the undesirable.

Kurt Russle and Goldie Hawn have been together forever. But they aren't married either, so I suppose that won't help you.
Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have been married since 1988. That's 18-19 years. Not bad for a hollywood marriage.

I have been married for 20 years. I think the key is that my husband and I don't say mean things to each other. We argue sometimes of course, but, we don't 4 wheel drive on each others feelings. Some things can't be taken back and I think too many people go for the juggler. Be nice to each other!

Marriage is difficult because it DEMANDS COMPROMISE. I wish I knew why being in the public eye was so hard on marriages, but even us common folk have only 1/3 of all marriages surviving! At least we live in America where women and men can funtion together or alone, which ever suits them.
