well it all depends on the sender, sometimes they have signed
a release so the courier would just leave it on your doorstep
otherwise s/he will leave a door tag saying they need your signature and will return the next day (unless you contact them)
after so many attempts (I thinks its 3 ) they will send it back to
the sender..
sometimes you can also leave a note for the courier
saying its okay to leave the package..
now heres a suggestion- you can also have the sender
ship your package to your nearest fedex station or Fedex Kinkos
(its what we called HAL and nopes its not a robot
but stands for Hold at Location, this means that center will
hold your package for you. I think its about 5 days (maybe more)
that way its safe and it wouldnt ruined by the weather.
and wont get stolen either.

You can leave a note but chances are they won't leave the package without a signature if the shipper has requested it. I recommend you go to their website, Fedex.com, and if you have the tracking number for the package you can leave signature release permission on the website. You could also contact them at their 800 number - 1-800-gofedex, and they may be able to contact the shipper and have the shipper remove the signature requirement.

Also, not all packages shipped via Fedex require a signature. I receive packages often that they just leave in my door.
