Allegedly it is supposed to interfere with the airplanes instruments but, that was busted on Mythbusters. They tell you to shut off all electronic devices. But the reception would be poor anyways. You could always pop in a credit card on the inboard phone but it is expensive as hell.

I can tell you that as a fellow traveller, I wish people wouldn't use cell phones on planes because it is very annoying. Short of that, if the flight attendant says it's ok, it's ok. I doubt that once you get airborne you'll have reception!

It would be wise not to use mobiles in the air. The air hostesses always tell you to switch off the mobile and there is also a sign that states this too, so in order for a safe journey it is your duty like everyone else's on the plane to obey the rules in order to ensure a safe flight.

No! Cell phones might interfere with the aircraft instruments. Which is what has been said by the FCC.

no it's because ur signal may interfere with the gps on the airplane and also the communication tools on board this hardly would ever happen but they just dont allow the use as a safety precaution

Nope, and if they see you use it, you'll be asked to shut it off, and if you fail to listen they will land the plane at the nearest airport and you'll be gone.

i saw a mythbusters on this. it did slightly interfear with the ILS. (landing system). which means if the pilot is landing using instruments, although the chances are slim, it MIGHT mess up the landing. if the call can wait, i suggest you wait.
