I saw Nickel Creek 3 times and loved their concert each time. They're hard to describe- they could play with Coldplay though. (In fact there's a band called Blue Merle that is a cross between Coldplay and Nickel Creek.) No explosions, just foot-stomping fun music! Check out their website- www.nickelcreek.com. They're comprised of a brother and sister who play guitar and fiddle/violin respectively, and their friend Chris Thile who plays mandolin. They all sing and the harmonies are great!

I am complete rocker but I took my sister to see Dashboard Confessional and the set was AMAZING! Not only did they have Say Anything opening up but the lead singer from Say Anything, Max Bemis, sang a song with Chris Carraba and it was SO great! I still get chills thinking about how wonderful that concert was.

Thomas Dolby at the Pterodactyl Club, Charlotte, NC. Must have been 1986. Small room, the band was tight and he put on a HELL of a show. Still remember "The Key to Your Ferrari" like it was yesterday!
