I expect to retire in the next three years from a career in computing. I originally wanted to be a teacher when I went to college 40 years ago. For financial reasons I found a different profession. I now would like to teach but the idea of going back to school to get a masters degree is daunting. I believe I would like to be a classroom aid in a local elementary school. I live in Seattle Washington.

The best thing to do is put together a professional resume of everything you have done through out your life time and approach the school principal. Also a quicker way of getting involved in by volunteering so that you get some experience working with kids. if your not happy with that you can always teach English to migrants as they love learning from native speaking people. I'm not sure what happens there but here in Australia we have programs set up where the average person can do a short course through for example, The Wesley Mission and then donate a couple of hours a week teaching one on one to migrants and then after you feel confident place an ad in the paper stating "English Teacher $20 an hour" and your set to become a teacher. But if you want to work with kids that' a whole lot harder as you have to have security checks, experience etc. So good-luck
