The day my now husband was going to ask for my hand in marriage we were supposed to have dinner with both our families in a very nice Spanish Restaurant that a friend of my brothers had just opened.
When we got there at around eight the whole place was closed and the lights weren't even on. As we reached the door my brother's friend came out and told us that the police was inside.
It turns out that they didn't have a liquor license and the police was trying to close the place down so while he tried to convince them that he had a license he had had to close the whole place.
He told us to give him ten minutes and when the ten minutes were up he told us to come inside.
He managed to convince the police officers of how important that day was to my husband and me and both our families so they let him open the restaurant for us only.
The poor guy was so embarrased that the officers and all of us (about 50 people in total) ate and drank for free that night, and the place was quite expensive!

I don't think so, but on New Year's Eve, we went to Applebee's and sat at the bar to wait for a table and got drinks there and didn't get charged for them, either by the bartender, or on our final bill, because they said it was their fault for not charging us earlier. Oh, well!

Not free, but they've removed from the bill the unacceptable item or taken a percentage off the bill.

Once at Perkins I asked for my steak to be well-done, and when they served it to me it was way too pink. I sent it back, and it took forever to come back, so they told me they'd take my meal off the bill. But they only took half of it off....oh well

Nope! My daughter says it is because I do not stand up for myself (she was 11 then). I say it was because it just isn't worth the hassel!
She could be right!
