In your mouth you have saliva glands, when you taste or smell foods your brain tells your saliva glands to produce salive, this helps you chew your food and digest it easier.

The parotid, submandibular, and sublingual glands.

Salivary gland is a catch all term for those three gland types as well as Ebner's glands which only produce minimal salivary components.
