I mean seriously, legally when a semi is loaded it weighs 80'000lbs, or 40 ton. With all that weight on the truck, it just don't stop on a dime. I drive a ready mix truck and I'm driving a truck that has a shifting load in the drum and people cut me off like they think I can stop on a dime. I have almost had accidents because people have cut me off and honestly it pisses me off that some people have such little disreguard or respect for that big truck. I've been in an accident in a big truck and honestly lucky to be able to walk, much less alive.

Seriously when your driving around those big trucks, show some respect. It would make truckers like myself ALOT happier.

as a former truck driver I know a lot about this subject.. If some drivers would trade places or just ride in a large truck in traffic they would realize just how hard it can be sometime to see them little cars until it is to late. You have a lot of truck to handle and loaded or unloaded it is hard to stop in a hurry. I had a guy pulling a camper once pull right out in front of me one day from a gas station and stop. I almost took out his camper cause I sure as heck wasn't going to hit his truck. I figured the camper was safer if I had to hit him as there shouldn't be anyone in it. I had no where else to go. shoulder was under construction as was the median. I hugged the edge as far as I could without risking my own vehicle. I was fully loaded with movies from 20th Century Fox so my load wasn't light and to have an accident might destroy a lot of classic movies. not to mention the costs involved. Fortunately the guy moved and I squeaked past his trailer. I had my daughter in the truck also so I had even better reason not to wreck my truck. I seen cars think they can pass a truck with oncoming traffic and have to go off the road or pull back into the truck. A tractor trailer or other large vehicle doesn't give as easily as a car or even that Hummer you might own. If you have a death wish then cut off a large truck. Maybe he has nuclear waste or worse. explosives that when you hit him and he wrecks no one within 100 ft will survive but you knowing that you caused it and will have to live with it for the rest of your life..

I'm with you. I'm a mechanic and I had a 1984 35 foot motor home out on a test drive and i have this little asian kid in a civic (go figure) cut me off and stop. i creamed the son of a *****, but luckly i usually film my test drives for legal reasons, incase something like that happens. He was charged for reckless driving, and paid for the repair bill, and because the damage to the front end of the motor home could be contributed to the accident he was charged with that protion of the repair bill too. it took almost a month to get the motor home back and to the cliant, who wasn't happy about waiting for so long to get it back but when he saw the video he knew that there was nothing that could have been done, thank god for video cameras.

The average car driver should be required as part of driving test, to drive a loaded semi down a rain slick highway to understand what the crapping in your pants feeling is all about when a car cuts it off. But that would take too much time...

I readily agree that people do not use common sense and show little respect for large trucks. I personally allow as much space as possible, you may well be carrying medical supplies that may be used In hospitals. These medical supplies may not be there for the idiot who cuts you off and ends up in a life threatening accident.

TRy driving a 53' reffer in S.F and L.A . You have to ride the persons rear end with your rig being fully loaded. If you dont cars swoop in and you will never get too your destination.

Besides actually moving out their way when I need to make a turn, there's the thoughtful light flashing when they pass and letting them know they're clear. Of course, courteous as it may seem, it is actually not a good idea...it blinds the driver of the rig as he is looking to see where you're at. A simple courteous act would be just to turn your lights off and then back on, that way you won't blind the truck driver.

I am with you brother! I drive a tow truck and sometimes I think I must be invisible even with flashing lights, reflective vest, and fluorescent colored to boot.

Makes you think they have a death wish doesn't it. They don't realise how hard it is to stop those big rigs.
