word equasion: sally has 3 apples and tomy has 2 times as many apples as sally, less 1. how many apples are between them

forumla equasion: 3x + 2(x+3)

A word equation is just the words written out to describe the reactants and products, while a formula equation uses the symbols of the elements.
example
Sodium chloride + Silver Nitrate = Sodium Nitrate + Silver Chloride.
NaCl + AgNO3 = NaNO3 + AgCl

assuming you mean this in a chemical context, consider the following :

NaOH + HCl ====> NaCl + H2O

Sodium + Hydrochloric = Sodium + Water
Hydroxide Acid Chloride

The first is the formula equation, the second is the description in words. The sapcing will probably get screwed up.
