Female... they understand what each exam / test / probe / etc. feels like and how to make it as comfortable as possible. While most men gyno's have been trained to do this a female knows from experience. On the other side of that a male gyno is more sympathetic of things such as labor / delivery pains and pregnancy pains / complications.

I prefer female OB/GYNs. I've experienced the care of male OB/GYNs on two different occasions and my experience with both of them was not good. In both cases they didn't listen to me when I told them something wasn't right. And neither of them were gentle with me when I have had my pelvic exam and pap smear done every year. I find that a female physician when it comes to my gynecologic needs listen better than male doctors. My thought is that if you are more comfortable with your female doctor and her skill is good (both bedside manner and skill are important to me which is a big reason why I prefer female physicians) then I would say stick with her. But please continue to weigh your options so that you can have the doctor that works best for you on all levels.

I prefere a male OB/GYN just because in my experience Men doctors are more gentle and understanding. They don't want to hurt you when they do exams.
I feel like women doctors are a little more rough sometimes. It seems like women look at you in a way that makes you think your stupid for being concerned about something. Men seem to be more understanding and really listen to you when you talk.

When I was pregnant with my first, I thought I would be more comfortable with a woman doctor and found one in a group of six other (male) doctors. Unfortunately, at the first appointment, I found out she doesn't deliver babies. She said she'd be happy to still see me throughout the pregnancy, but I'd have to have one of the other male doctors deliver my son. I wound up switching to one of the other doctors, and I think he's wonderful. He's more caring, friendly and has a wonderful bedside manner. Even when he moved his practice to an office with another male, I went with him. Now I see both of them, in case my doctor's not on call when I deliver my second one, and I'm happy with both. My suggestion is to go to both offices and see how you feel with the males and females. It never hurts to do it and if you don't like them, you can always switch. It happens all the time and the doctors won't (or shouldn't) take offense to it. Good luck to you.

Female ob/gyn...she just seems to understand my problems a little bit more and sympathizes with my woman health problems. Although, I know of some women who swear on going to male ones who they say are excellent. It's just a matter of what you're comfortable with. Good luck! Go with what you're happy with, I would say.

The gender of the gynecologist does not matter at all to me. All I want is someone who knows what he or she is doing and who is compassionate and kind. My mother recommended one for me, since she is familiar with many physicians (she works part-time as a translator for several Asian languages) and he's male. My fiancee didn't exactly feel comfortable with the idea of another male looking at me, but after meeting our doctor for the first time and seeing his genuine concern and kindness, we haven't thought twice about our choice.

I have had both and I have to say a male was better. Female doctors try to hard to make you deal with stuff I would not recommend a female.

being pregnate 4x now... i prefer a male... women seem to be so much rougher and uncaring, where i have found that men, are sempathic and much more wowed buy the miracle of life... best most of all, pick one, that you are comfortable, if you do not like their bedside manner, request another doctor. Its your body and your child, this should be and enjoying time for you.

find out from friends and family on how good the doctors are and base it on that. it really has no difference between a male and a feamale obgyn. its easier to talk to a feamale. but sometimes men can be easier for you. i have a male obgyn if that helps...lol

I prefer females, but have had males check me before I delivered my kids. I always feel females are actually more understanding about what is going on.
