It depends. Fraternal twins (where two eggs are fertilized at once) are hereditary. Identical twins (where one egg splits into two babies) are not hereditary, they happen by the egg splitting by chance.

Also, twins usually skip a generation, so if your MOM was a twin she probably would not have twins herself but could have passed the fraternal twin gene to you. The gene for twinning causes a woman to release two eggs at once instead of the usual one egg per cycle. That is why it is carried on the mother's gene and passed down from the mother. Your fiancee's family history of twins will not affect your chance of having twins.

Also, fraternal twins can be caused by fertility enhancing drugs such as clomiphene, or by procedures such as IVF (where eggs are fertilized in a lab and then placed inside ther uterus) because more than one egg is typically inserted.

If twins run in the woman's side of the family, then there is a possibility of the woman carrying twins as well.

It has nothing to do with your side of the family. All you are doing is injecting the sperm and determining the sex. You can't control whether or not she releases 1 egg or 2 and you can't control whether that 1 egg splits to create identical twins. 2 eggs need to be released and fertilized for there to be fraternal twins.

You have a higher chance than most people, but I don't think you will. Twins also run in my family (my brother and sister are fraternal twins), but it also seems to skip a generation. My great grandmother had twins, my grandmother didn't, and my mom did. I have 2 children, and never had twins, but there's a higher chance my sons will have twins. Just the trend I've seen in my family.

for a woman to carry twins--it is decided by the fathers genes/side of the family-- if twins ran on his side--I would say you have a very good chance.

but being that the twins run on your side-I think you have just as good a chance as anyone.

sorry :(

With twins on both sides it is likely, but not always the case.

I have always heard that it skips a generation, so if you and your fiancee are not twins your chances of conceiving twins are very highly. Best of luck with your future bundle/bundles.

I would say that your chances are high but not as high as your childs chances of twins will be. twins sometimes jumps a generation not always but often.
