Not a good point by Phish really. Speed cameras don't catch drink driver, junkies off to get their next fix driving while smashed off their faces, joyriders, people with no insurance tax and MOT and they are completely in accurate on motorcycles. Use speed cameras outside schools, hospitals in villages or where there is a high density of people but as for putting them on motorways dual carriage ways and straight pieces or road there is only one reason the camera is there and that's to make money the only time they should be in use on motorways is when work is being carried out and work men and women are in danger. Its only a very small percentage of the money taken that gets put back into road safety. The money that it costs to buy, install and maintain cameras should be spent on more Police staff. After all if peoples safety is the number one priority cost should not come into the equation.
Cameras wont be removed until the government and the road camera partnership find a even more profitable way of making money. If you owned a camera which made you in some cases (the M1) £20000+ a week would you be in a hurry to take it down I know I wouldn't.

I'd like to see speed cameras everywhere, on every street, so that my safety is not compromised by fu*cking idiots who won't keep to the speed limit, and I'd like the penalty for speeding to be a mandatory £1000 fine and a 6 month ban.

No. I think they are quite effective. They may not stop people from speeding in the first place but they are effective to catch the speeder's and make them pay for the public hazard they caused.

How would the local authority be able to waste all the money collected in fines if they didn't have them? They are a license to print money, and anyone saying they don't ever speed is delusional!!
