I would say you probably have some type of engine trouble. However its a good idea to save money to first try disconnecting the battery for about 15 mins, then driving the car for a bit to see if the light comes back on. If it does then you could probably go to Auto Zone and have them check for codes. This will give you an idea of the trouble you might have. Then if the repair is beyond your or your friends capabilities, then take it to a reputable shop for repairs. And get an etimate for the repairs from several shops before you let anyone work on it.

purchase a OBDII engine tester/code reader. Plug it into the port under the dash.1. Read the code and follow instructions to determine component failure. 2. Back to auto parts and purchase part so you know what it looks like. 3. replace part 4.check to verify check engine light is not on. 4a. This process of resetting the check engine light is only completed after 4 or more key movements. In other words, don't expect just resetting the code to solve the problems. Even after resetting the codes the light may still come on till the codes have been totally erased. Yes, they are stubborn

I just know you are going to be getting a lot of answers that say disconnect the battery post. WRONG! You own a car, you should know how to fix it. Here s the simplest way for you to become a mechanical genius and never get ripped off again. to pass this course with honours, simple run down to your nearest Wal-Mart. There you will find a computer code analysis reader for your car for $20.00. Run back home and read the instructions. Plug it into connection under the dash and let it run through your codes. If there is something wrong it will tell you. If there isn't (voila.. i lova using that word) the computer will reset itself when it comes out of diagnostic mode and the service light will go out and will never thereafter bring sadness to your Kingdom.

There is problaby nothing wrong with the car. Or it may be an O2 sensor out of whack. Disconnect the battery for 5 min. If it comes back on, you got a bad O2 sensor. You can run the car, but use more gas without a replacement.
