There is a hard lump under his right nipple and a smaller one under his left. I just noticed it tonight. Is it just swollen glands? What do you think it could be? Thank you!

Babies end up with estrogen from the mother in there bodies. A boy may have enlarged breasts, a girl may have enlarged breasts or even a false "period".

Once the estrogen is out of his system, his chest will go down to normal. Nothing to worry about in my opinion. It should subside in 2 to 4 weeks. Check out the link because there's info about the condition as well as what to expect from your new lil man.

Congratulations.

My middle son had a lump under one of his nipples. It has something to do with the mother's hormones and it was fine, but I can't remember what the physiology behind it was. I would just call the doctor, but I wanted to answer this so you wouldn't be totally freaked out. I am a nurse and vaguely remember from my OB/GYN class that some babies do this. It doesn't matter if they're male or female.

Although I don't want to say not to worry, what you have noticed may not be that much cause for alarm. Both male and female babies can have engorged mammary glands similar to that of the lactating mother. Some have even said to have seen milk come from the babies nipples too. So what you may be witnessing are swollen mammary glands, however, if you notice that they get larger or signs of irritation in the area, seek medical attention immediately.

I dont know but (last year, age 14) I had something in my left nipple that hurt when I touched it, it was hard. I heard someone say it has to do with something about when you grow you can get that. Maybe he has it cause he is growing, you do grow at 2 weeks :). Reguardless to that, I would take him to the doctor. He is only 2 weeks old.. you probably should take him to the doctors frequently anyways when they are newborn (not that I need to tell you this). Just mention it to the doctor next time. You could aslo try webmd.

Most likely this is from you. Especially if you are breast feeding. For a couple of weeks after delivery, your baby will get a surge of your hormones. If you had a girl, the same thing would happen and she might even have what is described as a small period. But boys have breast tissue also and this surge of hormones will affect him the same way. It should go away soon. If it's not gone by his next well baby appt, ask the doctor

I would say yes if breastfeeding was established. I know what you are going through, but when I started giving bottles to give myself a break I ended up giving more and more bottles until I stopped breastfeeding, honestly it gets too tempting. I really really think your latch is wrong. I just got done reading the book Bestfeeding and it really sounds like you usually have a good latch but something goes wrong and you get a bad latch sometimes. If it hurts, unlatch, calm down and try again. Good luck, and from my experience if you want to breastfeed DONT do the bottle, its to easy to get tempted later if you start.

Could just be his normal glands, but keep an eye on them. If they seem to get bigger, take him to the doctor. At the very least, mention this to the doctor on your son's next visit.

I agree with Grn_eyes. Take him to the doctor. It is probably nothing but just to make sure everything is okay, at least have it checked out. OR you could call the doctor's nurse and ask if she/he feels you should bring your son in to see the peds doctor.

My son had the same thing and I freaked. His doctor said no big deal it will go down. It did too. But to be sure because every situation is different you should probably have it checked.

It is probably nothing to worry about ,but tell your Doctor about it anyway at your/child's next check up. Call the nurse if need be ..peace-of-mind is priceless! Don't dwell on it..worrying is like a rocking chair..it gives you something to do but gets you nowhere!
