Whenever an entrepeneur donates money to a worthy cause here in America and they are white, they are strongly cohersed into donating it to an "urban" development project. Well, why can't we expect that someone of Oprah's stature donate to a benfit that will benefit "suburban" develpment. There are a large number of poor white, asian, and children other than black that are suffering and I don't see anybody saying anything about it. I know it wouldn't P.C. to, but come on, I don['t want my kids growning thnking that they have to ashamed of being white. Especially since it's not their fault.

O'kay, some of obviously do not realize other things that Oprah has done. Let's reveiw:

1. She organized a "ball" for all black women and gave them diamonds. I saw no white people at this show and I do not believe any were honored.
2. She donated millions to help black families build houses in New Orleans after Katrina. We would show these house on her show and none of the families were white. Not one.
3. She routinely goes out of her way to promote predominately black projects like movies, singers, etc. She almost single handedly promoted "Dream Girls" for weeks by showing trailerson her show and bringing the actors on television.
4. She repeatedly fawns over any black person who is making headlines.

This is discrmination at best. What about the white people in New Orleans? What about the predominately white movies like "We are Marshall?"

Listen mono, I am simply stating a fact. As far as looking at skin color, I guess that only works when its your arguement.

What about Al Sharpton calling the 7 cops in New Orleans racist for shooting someone when 4 of them are black? Does he need your advice? See its not just me, its is all around and as long as people in this country keep presenting this double standard then there will be problems.

You are an idiot. Be for screaming racism...didn't you see the white girl standing right next to Oprah at the opening of the South African school. Hello.
I guess now it is now safe to say, it isn't an all black school afterall.

Some people are a total waste of oxygen....

First, she didn't just donate $40 million to the school (which is in South Africa and admits girls regardless of race as long as they're basically poor, bright and hard working), she BUILT it.

Second, you are wrong when you say that white entrepreneurs are coerced into donating to urban development projects "whenever" they make donations. The largest individual monetary donations in this country usually are made to universities. That's how the Ivies got their multibillion dollar endowments. And no one coerces anyone to make any donations they don't want to make.

The most significant charitable gifts recently have been by Bill Gates and Warren Buffett and they're mainly dedicated to fighting AIDS and other diseases around the world. How many of these oh-so-poor white and Asian kids suffering in the 'burbs are dying at age 40 because they can't afford life saving drugs? Not many.

You sound very bitter because you aren't as prosperous as you wish. That's unfortunate for you. But it's absurd to try to draw some sort of leap from Oprah's very selfless and commendable gift to concern that your kids will be ashamed to be white. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Oprah, after hurricane Katrina, built a community, in Houston, Texas, which she refers to as Angel Lane, with her commercial resources, each of the houses was completely furnished. I am sure many of the New Orleans, displaced white families, also benefited from new housing in Houston, Texas. That is a question you can probably find out from Oprah's staff.

I am not an Oprah fan, but I appreciate her humanitarian activities, even though it is only for the tremendous amount of tax breaks for her and her various business entities.

She's the tax break queen, as well as, giving vehicles to audience members, her business people are clever. From watching over, she is rarely sincere and open-hearted, just thinking tax break, tax break. . . .

Regarding donating and building American schools, there was a comment from Oprah or her spokesperson, it is too difficult for a lay person to get involved with rebuilding schools in America. It is not something an individual citizen can do - laws, etc. One must get involved in politics and make sure the right people are elected to public offices.

a million. even however we here interior the US elect greater colleges, we've greater and bigger colleges than Africa. 2. American ladies have possibilities that are actually not available to African ladies. 3. $40 million is going lots greater beneficial in Africa than here. 4. the human beings in Africa might tutor Oprah some actual gratitude fairly of the media dick-sucking she might get here at homestead. 5. Oprah had to share her wealth with toddlers who have been definitely underprivileged, not young toddlers who have been whiny because of the fact they had to compliment between an iPod and a cellular telephone. 6. Oprah geared up a school for women basically because of the fact African ladies are actually not taught a feeling of self-worth and empowerment. African women folk are regularly dealt with at relating to an identical point as farm animals--as a commodity.

She was asked this very question on national TV and said that the school was for all deprived girls regardless of color. However, she is as sexist as the day is long. I am from Chicago and remember when she first started. Every show was a 'why men are so rotten' gala. She always plays to her audience like every other TV personality. She also has a disdain for men in general.

Don't forget that we're also excluding men since it is an all black GIRL'S school. Which I actually think is fine. Black girls are probably in need in Africa moreso than white girls in Africa, don't you think? And women are still subject to crazy shi* in Africa sometimes like female circumcision. So I think maybe she picked Africa, then picked the people most in need of help there. Either way, she's doing something good for some people, and everyone wants to pick it a part and analyze it.

P.S. As far as donating it to American school's, I agree, that may have been a better choice. However, I did hear that when she has asked children in the U.S., who are in need of help, what they wanted, they asked for sneakers and ipods. So I think if she donates the money in the U.S. she needs to select certain students to help that are motivated to do well in school.

Those kids in Africa don't really have any descent schools to attend. So Oprah went out her way to help open up a school, so the kids can get the education they need. It's not an all-black school, it's an all GIRL school. They didn't say you have to be Black to attend. HOW CAN YOU BE AGAINST PEOPLE WANTING TO HELP THOSE IN NEED IN AFRICA? They live in Severe poverty ( because many of them don't even have the basics that they need, like: clean water, clothing, and proper shelter) and many die of numerous diseases because they don't have health care. Here in America, poor people can go to homeless shelters, free clinics, and attend public schools.

Your argument makes no sense, considering that Oprah gives things away to her audience (like cars). Most of her audience is white.

According to your argument, your kids would also have to be ashamed if they are boys, because it was an all girls school.
I guess black boys would also have to feel ashamed.

Don't bash Oprah, she's a philanthropist.

Oprah invited Kelly Preston, John Travolta's wife, to the womans' ball to which you allude to. Lisa-Marie Presley was also in attendence. It was a DIVAS ball not a BLACK womens' ball where she gave away diamonds. Steven Speilberg's wife was there, too. Her name is Kate Capshaw and she is white.

Tina Turner even sang a duet with Celine Dion at the Diva's Ball.

Are you telling me Celine Dion is a black woman?

Oprah built that school as a promise to Nelson Mandela. While I commend her for keeping her word, she should really be doing more for American kids, their education and self esteem are just as important. I don't think it was a racist act,but I'm not very impressed either. There are plenty of American schools that could have used that donation.
