Why are women's plus size clothes so hideous? Why do the buyers think that because we are heavy we want to dress like Barbara Bush? Every time I go shopping I get depressed. Where can I find nice, professional clothes in plus sizes? I am so tired of all those pastel monstrousities they have in plus-size departments. Do buyers think that plus-size women do not wear career suits?

I shop at Torrid and Lane Bryant for casual clothes but I like to wear suits to work. I have bought some from Dress Barn out of desperation but their quality and cut are awful!

Saks Salon Z seem to have the market cornered for plus-size designer wear but even their selection isn't great (yawn...boring!) and I HATE Dana Buchman.

Angel, you are so right!!! Sometimes I think they just cut a hole in a circus tent and stick it on a rack in the plus size dept. LOL

you forgot about atrocious large floral prints, I don't go shopping with the idea, "I've put on a few pounds, I need to find a two foot wide red flower to draw extra attention to my *ss",

I can't help you much, but I've heard of a store called Torrid. One of my friends shops there, and she is about a size 16. Torrid does have a website, so to get a taste of their clothes you can go on it. If you have already tried shopping at Torrid, I can't really help you in any other way, because it is basically the only store I know which sells plus-sized clothes for women.

Torrid has a lot of nice clothing. I would buy more from there, except I am just a teen with no money.... But I have seen commercials about Lane something... Lane Bryant! Excellent timing television! Got to love that.

Let's face it designers need to wake up. Did you see the episode of Project Runway where they had to design for real women ( the other contestants mothers) they freaked out! They did not even have appropriate size manikins to work on.

That said -Talbots has some professional looking plus size fashions - but very expensive... I got a few great pieces and supplement them with inexpensive fashionable tops and accessories. I also have had luck at Kohls - they have a new line by Daisy Fuentes that is very stylish. If you are looking for workout clothes, swimwear or lingerie (cami sets, etc) check out http://www.alwaysforme.com/index.html - they have some great styles.

You could try Rave,WetSeal, and DEB. I know DEB has alot of sizes for curvier girls. I hope I helped some. Go here: http://www.debshops.com/fashion/viewinca... At the location near me they actually have more options then the ones on the website (they have like half a store or more of plus sizes) Also they have great sales (Most of their clothes are to big for me ATM though because I'm at that akward stage between the girl's section and Juniors.)

Check JessicaLondon.com. I think they are a branch of Lerners and they have very nice skirt suits and tailored suits for plus sizes. Cato's has cute stuff, but more on the casual or trendy side. FashionBug also has very cute clothes in the plus sizes.

Read your question with interest, as I am the owner of a bridal and special occasions store catering to particularly plus size mother of the bride or groom. However, starting this Spring, we will be launching our Ben Marc career suits and they are colorful and of good quality and design. If you care to check back again this February, you will see some stylish suits under our "dressy suits" section.

We are also launching a plus size contemporary line of clothing under www.AudreyClair.com and www.plussizedressing.com but these two sites will only be out in February as well. Please check all these sites out.

JCPenney has nice plus-size clothing, and you can shop online. Old Navy has nice clothing (online) as well. The Gap website also has clothing that goes up to size 20. You can also try roamans.com, and metrostyle.com. Hope these help!
