Sometimes, but not always. It can stem from weariness, being overwhelmed, anger, unreasonable expectations, overwork, fear, worry, anxiety, etc.

For me it probably does. Using myself as an example, I'd have to say that it also stems from being independent to the point that when I do depend on someone or something, I simply am not able to wait for things because I am used to going at my own pace....which I guess is selfishness.

They say that good things come to those who wait, though, and I know that is true. I believe I am more patient these days than I used to be because of the help of a friend, but I am not sure.

Not neccessarily.
I'm impatient for an end to a lot of ugly things in this world that have no direct practical impact upon me

Impatience stems from lack of control.People get nervous when they are not in control of a situation.

Not really. Patience needs to be taught, by example, by association and by experience. I am sure I never had much patience before having a child and my first marriage. My ex-husband was a walking disaster for the most part, but he did teach me something about patience.
