I have an essay to write for the college I want to attend and I have no idea were to start. Here is the essy topic:

Many students expand their view of the world during their time in college. Such growth often results from encounters between students who have lived different cultural, economic, or academic experiences. With your future growth in mind, describe a potential classmate that you believe you could learn from either within or outside a formal classroom environment.

I have no clue whatsoever what to right about. Please help!! Thanks!

Describe someone different from yourself who has a background you would find interesting.

Like "students who have lived different cultural, economic, or academic experiences".

That's what it says. And don't misspell "essay". They're not necessarily looking for something deep, just that you can communicate clearly. Ask your high school teachers or counselors to review it before submitting.

Ha, what a ridiculous question! "Choose someone who you will like because they are different not because of who they are!" Must be an American school. Well, personally, I would write a smart paper about how I think their question is bordering the line called offensive, but I would do it in a proper way and then I would go on to describe that the person who will expand my veiw of the world most during college would be me as such things are my responsibility and that simply meeting and noticing differences can lead to common racism. Then I would describe in detail my own interpretation of the 'multicultural' experience. Will this get me into their college? Who knows. Would it get their attention? You bet!

Sometimes the smallest difference between two people creates the largest amount of distinction. Just because you and a classmate are white, come from a middle class background, attend the same school, and learn the same things doesn't mean their isnt something that makes you different--maybe one of you have gay parents, or has a disabled sibling living at home. Again difference doesn't have to be large to be impacting.

Write about how the college may have a massive variety of ethnicity's and backgrounds and how this may motivate you to stretch your comfort/security level and go and meet these foreigners. This may mean their culture or their learning habits. Explain how these things could widen your knowledge and understanding on how other parts of the world operate and how it may play a key role in your future!

Wow. Cool question. Ours only required us to give the mandatory "What do you plan to do with your life?" spiel.

Hmm. Well, think about where in the world you would like to go and imagine the type of people you would meet there. Describe how their life experiences and perspectives would differ from yours.
