Character, as the name implies from the greek word meaning to engrave, is those qualities or traits that are indelibly of the person and that cannot be altered. Nowadays the word is taken to mean something akin to determination, 'bravado' or even 'balls'. Please bear in mind that it is a word, regardless how familiar it may look or sound to you, that really comes from another era and is at odds with today's tyranny of crosseyed science & morals

Character is, essentially, the qualities of a person and what makes this person who or what he/she is. We use characteristics to define those qualities.

I think that character is essentially that you have beliefs and morals and are willing to stand up to your responsiblities regarding them. In other words, you mean what you say and say what you mean without anyone else's opinion or actions swaying you.
