I spent 4 days in Rio last November. It really is an amazing city - so beautiful! There is crime there and it can be dangerous, but I didn't have any problems while I was there. I recommend going up Pão de Açúcar. The view is really lovely. If you go there have fun (and be safe).

With its bright sandy beaches, soaring mountains and picturesque harbour, it's no wonder that Rio de Janeiro is called the "cidade maravilhosa", or marvellous town and with hotelbye you can take the possibility and visit this excellent city. Rio de Janeiro is experiencing the South Atlantic coast and is the second-largest city in Brazil. This town is fortunate with one of the most lovely normal adjustments for a area in the world. The stunning landscape is just one of the reason why that visitors chose Rio de Janeiro. All through carnival time, a festival that everybody else noticed, the streets fill with audio and ornately costumed performers getting tourists from all over the globe.

All "legal" (Brazilian "legal") comments here so far, but ... I prefer the view from Corcovado to that from Pão de Açúcar; I haven't seen any nudity (close, though) on any of the city beaches; and the poverty seems much worse than that in the U.S. I'll never forget the man sitting on the sidewalk in Flamengo, buffing a couple of dozen pairs of shoes he had for sale. He had no legs, himself.

I'm a runner, and Rio has a fantastic variety of great places to run: a seaside park closed to vehicle traffic on Sundays; ditto for a rainforest road in the hills; flat Copacabana Beach, 2 1/2 miles; a path alongside Ipanema Beach; a 3-mile (?) loop, marked in 100-meter increments, around a lake under Corcovado; the Santa Teresa neighborhood, where you can't get lost if you just follow the trolley tracks; the botanical garden with plants from around the world....

Sure they have bizarre bus crimes, and the architecture is nothing to write home about (I'm from Chicago), but Rio has the best-looking pigeons in the world!

Rio is a city that will amaze, delight and fascinate you. Rio is such an extraordinary city that everybody are impressed at first sight by the climate and the striking landscape. From the sun-drenched beauty of its white sandy beaches to the generous hospitality of the "Cariocas" , Rio offers a combination that is hard to match. It is not only a beach resort combining tropical beauty and mountain views, but a sophisticated city as well. It is, without doubt, the world's most beautiful city

I loved Rio, it's one of the most naturally beautiful cities in the world (from what I've heard Capetown might be even more beautiful), and of course having millions of tanned brasileiras running around doesn't hurt. :) The beaches are great and lively with people playing soccer, playing music etc. There is a lot of cheap and good food. It's lively, tons of activity day and night, with simple things like plazas where people go to hang out, play music etc. I think it's great, but it is kinda dangerous and you do have to be careful if you're a gringo.

I am from Rio de Janeiro and I can tell you that my city is the most beautiful city in all over the world, that wot I think.

Few hours driving you can reach all the crystal clear beaches of our state such as Ilha Grande.

Yes we have rich and poor living side by side, but isn't it just like in the USA?

I was born in Rio, and currently live in the U.S. but the Wonderful City always blows my mind with its natural wonders. It just never gets boring.

I just returned from a vacation in Rio & Buzios. Both were amazing. Rio is, of course, a very large city and is very diverse. You have wealth and poverty very close to each other. Beautiful mountains and the beach are very close to each other.

I was with my Brazilian friend and he was always conscious of my safety (me = gringo) as we walked around Copacabana. I really enjoyed Ipanema beach and many other things in that area. I plan to return to Rio later this year for 5 weeks to attend classes at PUC. I can't wait!

A friend and I went to Rio for Carnaval last February and thought it was amazing. Amazing beaches, great views from Sugarloaf & Christo Redentor, friendly beautiful people, great food & even better drinks.

We went out every night, and generally to where the locals went, not the rest of the American tourists. We never once felt unsafe (and we're both 20 something white women). Granted someone tried (unsuccessfuly) to steal my camera one night, but there was a very large police presence out during the week of Carnaval. Yes, there is poverty and crime, but as long as you use your head you'll be fine.
