My husband had a vasectomy precisley 2 years ago. Since then our sexual realtionship slowed to almost a halt. In the last 1 1/2 months we have "reconnected" and have hardly gone a day without being intimate. That being said I am 1 1/2 weeks late for my period and having symptoms of pregnancy (i have 3 kids i'm familiar with the symptoms). However, a pregnancy test taken @ a week ago came back negative. Any thoughts on this? Anyone been in my situation before? What was the outcome? I would love to have more children... My husband does not. I was not 100% supportive of his decision and he knew that. He knows my concerns of pregnancy and knows I took a pregnancy test. He is being supportive either way. Could it just be that I've got my hopes up that the procedure has reversed? Or is there real reason to believe that it has. He has also been experiencing pain in and around his groin area lately, could this have something to do with his vasectomy or simply b/c of how active we've been?

I have NOT been unfaithful. - Have NO reason to be! lol I have a WONDERFUL husband and beautiful, smart, wonderful, healthy children who I DO pay attention to. I love them more than life itself and would love to be able to do that for more children. Yes, we have considered adoption, and would gladly adopt any child needing a home. We both love children. His decision in having the procedure was based on my health during each pregnancy and delivery. Also, I am only 28... I appreciate the suggestion but i don't think menopause is a consideration.

1) Vasectomys aren't 100%, but they're pretty reliable for the no-preggo vote. I'd be more inclinde to believe you're late because you're just late as that happens some times but that your desire to continue a family is making you see things that aren't there.

2) IF the pain in his groin is a dull throb or ache it could just be from the high sexual activity (though I'd imagine if your intimate most days for over amonth he'd be "back in shape" down there by now,). If it's actual pain (sharp or unbearable) it couldn't hurt to consult a doctor and play it safe. Timing is important too, if he's sore "down there" immediately or shortly after sex, it's probably just the frequency or intensity of the sex. However if this pain/discomfort is there when it's been a while since last having sex (I'd say more than several hours) it wouldn't suggest to me that the sex is the cause.

I got pregnant after my husband had a vasectomy. He has 2 kids from a previous marriage and had it done before I met him. Right after we got married I stopped taking the pill and was immediately pregnant. I can't tell you how thankful I was that I just took my pills before we got married to be regular and keep my skin clear!!! It was quite a surprise and we were thrilled as we thought that a reversal was in our future. Of course there are those that said the baby is not his. Bitchy sister in law, but that is another story... Anyways, if your husband has not had his checked then it IS possible that it grew back or was never 100% to begin with. Good luck!

It appears that you have some explaining to do. Actually, there are situations where the vas tubes grows back together if the doctor did not cut out a long enough piece or where men actually have a third tube. Did he have a sample taken in for a sperm count after the operation to confirm the effectiveness of the operation?

I know several women who became pregnant after vasectory's. In one case the husband left the marital home insistant that the wife was with another man. When the baby was born and DNA proved the husband to be the father, he wanted to reconcile, but the wife refused. An at home pregnancy test should be accurate especially at 10 days late. Good luck!

i don't know the actual % or anything but I have heard of women gettin gpregnant after there husband has undergone a v. i think the tissue can reconnect but it is a very slim chance and takes a little while.

or maybe you just took the test to soon wait it out a few days then take another test if it is still negative call the dr.

or it is evenpossible for early menopause, think about what age your mother went though it

I think it depends on the procedure he's had .. had a girlfriend that it happened too ... and when he went to the Dr he was told that a small percentage who get this type do have failure. I don't know much about how they do it but I know one is reversible usually thru surgery and one is pretty much foolproof safe. But he should go to the doc if he's having pain ... regardless of the recent activity level ... it should be checked just in case. Good luck whatever the outcome.

Apparently SHI+ Happens... to the best planned of us. According to what I am reading 0.5%-1.0% of Vasectomies fail. I don't know about the discomfort he has been having. That could be from being overly active. You might have him discuss it with his Urologist. Since your test came back negative, you may not have as much to worry about as you think you do. I had a tubal after my second child and, basically decided if I have another, it is beyond my control. (But please GOD no more!!!!)

The doctor missed a sperm tube. This very thing happened to my father-in-law. He had a vasectomy and my sister-in-law was conceived after wards. He went to the doc and got tested and sure enough he had a sperm count. So they had to redo his procedure.

Did he do everything he was supposed to do after the vasectomy and go to his follow up visit? Most pregnancies that do occur after a man has had a vasectomy is due to the man not going to his follow up exam to make sure that all was fine.
