Because of the difference in history and experience. Europe has gone thru a number of trials that America has not. There was a time when Europe was the more conservative than North America.

We are more conservative because the the New World was for the most part populated by people who were being persecuted in europe for their conservative views. For example, puritans were a major group of immigrants. They were not called Pure-itans for nothing.

Because we were founded on Freedom of religion, but no Freedom from religion. And "conservative" means someone who wants to keep things the same or set them back to how things were in an earlier time.
