I can see how people might find it cruel to keep animals cooped up in zoos. However, I think that as long as the zoo is run well they have many benefits.
For one, the animals are well cared for. They are guaranteed meals, and they do not have to worry about predators. Also, zoos encourage education about the animals and their natural habitats, and many have special programs to get the community involved and interested in how we can preserve endangered species and protect the environments they live in in the wild. Furthermore, many zoos have breeding programs to help try and restore numbers of endangered species and keep them from extinction.
All in all, it may not be the most exciting life, but IMO zoos are a great way to learn about the creatures we share the planet with, because seeing them up close is a lot more fun than just reading about them in a book. It's a great way to spend a day with the family.

Most Zoos these days have very good breeding programs, and have succeeded in breeding some animals that are on the critically endangered lists. Zoos also serve a purpose for animals that have been injured in the wild, and have been rehabilitated, but unable to return to the wild, the zoo has been a safe haven for these animals. Most Zoos also have the best facilities and vets on hand in case of emergencies. I think these days Zoo's have become much better places for a lot of animals, as there are also a lot more rules for them to adhere to, not like years ago, where Zoo's were seen as cruel, and housed animals in cramped cages etc.. these days the animals have more freedom, and also most of the bigger zoo' s have replicated the animals habitats.

yea... it is better, though if it is a place where they take animals that are sick or injured and care for them until they are better, and (if possible) send them back into the wild. But zoos are good because they help teach people about animals in a more real way than showing them in a book. Many times they help to keep animals from going extinct, also.

Yes...but not ALL animals
Zoos work very hard to bring back species on the brink of extinction.
Zoos educate people on animals and their importance on earth.
Zoos protect animals from hunters.
I think Jails should be more like zoos.

*Some should. Because that is the only way some of us will ever get to see some of the animals. I don't think they care as long as they are taken good care of.The zoo has saved many animals from extinction

Depends on the animal but for the most part yes. If we just let them roam free, the more powerful ones could cause serious damage.
