First a minimum of a four year bachelors of science degree, with a major in some sort in aircraft structural/jet engines engineering. Better be good at math because you will be required to navigate as well.

One of the best ways is to join the Air Force, Army or Navy and qualify for their flight school. Many commercial pilots have military training. If you just want to be able to fly a small private plane, check with your nearest airport; they are sure to have someone who gives flying lessons.
