in order for the instructor to be successful in their career and find fun, they need to have a relationship based on a common ground of understanding. If they instructor don't really understand their students how will they interact with the students. just like a receptionist need to understand their guest so does a professor need to understand them.

first and the most important of all, it's not about relationship, it's about if you can teach well. a lot of teachers out there have excellent relationship, i know one, he is every student's favorite teacher, but he is never voted as teacher of the year, or best scholar at the school, because every one knows he cannot teach. as far as a teacher goes, his or her job is to teach.

It is very important to gain their respect. If my students do not respect me then they will not learn. I do not try and be their
friend. I am their teacher. I do treat them with respect in order
to get their respect. I let my students know that I am behind then,
I believe in them and I expect great things from them. I try and
balance authority with compassion. That isn't easy to do.
