If you can ping google.com, then there is nothing wrong with your ability to connect to machines outside your network.

start > run > cmd > telnet yahoo.com 80

Do you get a blank screen? Or does it pause and time out?

Put this in if you get a blank screen:

get /

(That's incorrect, but it's enough to generate an error page)

Do you see a bunch of html and text? If so, then the problem is in your browser settings most likely, or possibly a policies issue, and not a networking/firewall issue.

I had an identical project and it truly is what I´va realized/understood. carry out IPCONFIG or IPCONFIG /ALL on the laptop with the concern. once you've an IP cope with 169.254.x.x it s very probably that the community card is operating real. The IP 169.254.x.x is assigned even as the community adapter can no longer come across a DHCP server. it might nicely be that DHCP isn't enabled on your connection (no longer very probably). it might nicely be that DHCP has a small IP variety and also you've were given allotted all IPs on it (also no longer very probably, because you're assigned in maximum cases more effective than 20 pcs that would nicely be connected at a given second. That the MAC cope with of the community card isn't contained in the achieveable type of acknowledged playing cards. I checked the settings that I honestly have for my connection by way of beginning a browser web page by way of going to the cope with lower back by way of the IPCONFIG command listed as DEFAULT GATEWAY. For my particular project, i'm utilising a modem/router of modern make/style (a 2wire 2701HG-T) that acknowledged to no longer be real recognizing my community card (a RALINK on the spot PCI card WgP/G with a RT61 chipset) and had to request help with my ISP to reset the WEP key for my modem/router. in short, i might want to point to reset/change the WEP key with guidance of the ISP.
