It depends a lot on the shape. For a given area, different shapes have fifferent perimeters. If you provide me with details, I'll solve it for you.

8 acres =43560*8=348480 ft^2

if it is square, each side is
590ft & the perimeter is 4*590=2360ft or .447 mi.
1 mile is about 2 1/4 laps.

That depends on the perimeter of your land. If it's a square you'll have to do more laps, if it's a long skinny rectangle you'll have to do less laps.
8 acres is .01 square miles. So an eight acre square of land would be .1 mile on each side, and you'd have to walk 10 sides or 2 1/2 laps around to walk one mile.
However, that's assuming your land is a square. Suppose it's not. Suppose it's a rectangle of length x miles. (x is probalby a fraction). Then since length x width = .01 square mile, the width would be .01/x and the perimenter would be 2(x + (.01/x)) miles. Then you'd divide this into 1, as before, and this would be how many laps you'd have to walk.
For example, suppose you have a rectangle that's 1/4 mile on one side and one acre or .01 mile in area. Then the other side would have to be .04 mile, and your perimeter would be 2((1/4)+(.04))= .58 miles Then you'd have to walk 1/.58 ~= 1.72 laps to make one mile.

It depends on the shape of the acres.
I have given you two exampels below to show this. The second is of a square - which would is the sohrtest of the rectangular distance. (A circle would be even less).

An acre is 4840 square yards. (1 square mile is 640 acres)

Eg 220 yards by 22 yards
8 acres is therefore 8 * 4840 square yards = 38720 square yards

This could be 1 yard by 38720 yards, which if you were to walk around it would be 2 * 1 + 2 * 38720 = 77442 yards
A mile is 1760 yards. So in this example it would be 44 miles to walk around the 8 acres.

If we arrange them as a square - its about 197 yards by 197 yards.
So to walk around it would be just under 800 yards. So it would take just over two laps to get to a mile.

So in these examples. you could walk 1/44th the way around or just over 2 laps to do a mile....

12 x 208 = 2496 fee = perimeter

5280 feet = one mile

1 lap = 2496

x laps = 5280

x = 5280 divided by 2496 = 2.1 laps

the above is for a rectangle of 2 x 4 acres

for a square it is not much difference -it would be 2.24 laps
