Your laptop should have a recovery partition.Keep pressing f8 when the system boots up to get to a screen which offers to repair your computer amongst other options (safe mode , last good configuration etc).If you already know how to get there then Ignore me. If you see the option to repair your computer , click It and you will then see other options amongst which should be a restore to factory defaults. This will format your computer to It's original factory condition but backup any data you need first. Most laptops have recovery partitions on the hard drive which contain your operating System. They also offer you the option of creating a recovery disc. Even If you don't have a recovery partition , If you could get hold of a windows disc with the same operating system ( an OEM disc) , you could use your windows activation code(on the bottom of your laptop) to reinstall windows.

Well a proven fact is it all depends on what your doing. Desktops are for more power and most memory even thow you can use external Hard Drives. Laptops are for mobility and more twords work that dosn't require much power. I use Hewlet-Packerd [HP] they are very good and last. Go to there site http://www.hp.com and pick what you want and you can upgrade it there for what you want. You can do this with ANY type of computer. Toshiba I belive I should say arn't good since I have one and it busted after a week. Then, it took them weeks to fix it so Toshiba isn't worth it.
