My husband and I will be celebrating our 1 year anniversary in June. We want to find a great beach (with some pretty good waves), some night life, good food, etc. We would prefer to go to a beach in the south eastern states (we live in Tennessee). Any suggestions?

Fort Lauderdale has some nice waves, though it's certainly not the North Shore, and great beaches. The Los Olas area is a 5 minute cab ride, if you don't like the restaurants, bars, and action right on the beach. It's also a big city, so you can fly in directly and spend more time enjoying the hot times day or night.

I'd recommend staying at the Marriott Beach Place Towers right on the beach, if you can rent a villa with a full kitchen, living room, etc. Your husband will love Jackson's Steak House. I'd recommend the river cruise, if you want a break, and you can see all the mansions from the water while snuggling with a bottle of wine.

As an alternative, Clearwater Beach has the best sand in the Eastern U.S. in my opinion. There are plenty of good restaurants and bars in a very casual atmosphere. It's just not as fast paced and high energy as Fort Lauderdale or Miami. The waves are a bit calmer too, but the water an the sand are amazing.

Panama City, Florida is fun. We just got back, but it is off season and the restaurants were very mediocre, yet a bit pricey. Might try Myrtle Beach area in the Carolinas.

Destin, Santa Rosa, Panama City, the beaches are beautiful.
These are within about 3 or 40 miles of each other in the panhandle.

Congratulations.

Grayton Beach
Sandestin
Pensacola Beach
Navarre Beach
all of these are not so overrun with the college kids and stuff. Sandestin is pricey, Pensacola is gorgeuous, great nightlife, history and pretty beaches, bays and sights.
