This question is in no way, shape or form meant to be insensitive but I am generally just curious. Is it possible for a deaf person to speak normally and not have some type of speech impediment?

Its part of a human element called mimicking or mirroring. Babies do this when adults play with them, they try to make the same faces. Since deaf people cannot hear themselves speak they cannot tune their voices to a more 'correct' sounding tone. However, a person who went deaf later on in life after an accident or something, has a better chance of being able to speak more properly. It also has something to do with IQ, if they went deaf later on in life. Understanding how to control your vocal chords how they used to, when they could hear it. For the record, its not and impediment, IMO. Stuttering is an impediment.

No, it depend on many different things. If the the person was deaf at birth or at a real young age or the degree of the hearing loss they can have a speech impediment.

My cousin is deaf and she has a speech impediment. The reason deaf people do is because they can't hear the sound of their own voice. I guess depending on the extremity of being deaf decides the extent of the speech impediment.

There are many deaf people who speak normally due to the fact they became deaf some time after birth they were exposed to speach or even learned to speak before going deaf. A major example would be Bethoven who became deaf in adulthood.

Deaf people cannot hear themselves talk. It wouldn't be surprising if their speech went either way.

no. people who were deaf before they learned to talk probably would because the can't hear themselves but people who learned to talk before going deaf probably don't unless it happened at an early age.
