That is the first thing we see when we lay eyes on what is in front of us, it is so superficial, but we cannot deny that beauty, or looks is a thing to behold, but having said that it is also important what is on the inside, because that is who we really are, and if we are really honest that is the very core of what matters most of all.

I think ego counts for a lot of it. Date a very nice person who isn't too attractive and watch your friends go nuts trying to talk you out of dating them. Date someone who is about as deep as a teaspoon but who is incredibly good looking, and watch your friends pat you on the back. I've dated both and am always amazed at how much my friends suddenly start caring about who I'm seeing, like they have any reason to care if he is overweight or is a dead ringer for Kurt Russell in Backdraft. Still, the old ego puffs up pretty big when you've got a looker on your arm, because it seems like everywhere you go, people are impressed that you managed to land that 10.

you can't really see personality.
it's all about perception and if i perceive person A has nicer eyes than person B, then it is so.
people get hung up on looks b/c many feel it is the only way they can attract someone. noone wants to be lonely.
but not everyone is like that. and even if you do fall for someone for looks, the better you get to know them, you might end up falling for the person that they are, instead of how they look wrapped around your arms.

Lot of great answers here! My view, yes, alot of it is media. But generally, only insecure, superficial, adolescents think that way, that beautiful is better; not mature adults who have experienced real life. How many wonderful people would we not have in our lives if all we cared about was looks? Beauty, handsome, whatever, doesn't last. Eventually time catches up with us all. And sadly, we grow too wise, too late.

Good question!
"Man looks on the outward appearance, but God looks on the heart." So, I guess the answer to your question would be that the more we are like God, the more we look at what's inside a person rather than their outward appearance.

because a lot of people dont want to get to know someone they dont find attractive, so, they dont give them the time of day. On the other hand, we will go right up to someone we think is attractive. I mean think about it, when is the last time you walked up to a woman wo you didnt find attractive just to try to see if she had a good personality.

I remember you.
You were that one guy that answered my question and said it was too long.
Well, I'll tell you what happens.
People start only wanting to be with someone because they look good, and it becomes hard to recieve respect at that point.

I believe that its the fault of the media. Movies, television shows(excluding ugly betty)and commercials mostly only show attractive people.

well, sex can only last so long, although I would put up with a lot to keep the sex going, its not gonna work unless we get along well out of the sack.
