I just received a preapproved offer for a platinum card from Direct Merchants Bank. But instead of VISA or MC logo, it has the Discover Network logo. Does this mean it's the same as the Discover card?????

I already have a VISA from Direct Merchants Bank for several years.

But what advantage would "Discover Network" have over MC or Visa???? Under "advantages" is says no liability for unauthorized use and extended warranty and purchase coverage.... that's all. Nothing special at all.

So why should I get this Discover logo instead of MC???? I guess it would've been useful had Costco accepted Discover cards but they switched to American Express.

Yes, it is a "Discover Card". Discover Card is generally "cheaper" than MC and Visa to merchants, but you won't really see much difference from your perspective on cost.

On the negative side, Discover lags way behind in its network reach (i.e. number of merchants who accept the card). I've had a Discover Card once and it was when it was the company card. Horribly inconvenient.

Addendum: With all due respect, I beg to differ on the acceptability hit-rate. My wife still has the Discover Card. While Fortune 500 may be accepting them, not everyone is buying elevators from Honeywell, planes from Boeing and GM cars using the Discover Card. Usually, it's at the local stores - restaraunts, boutiques and grocery stores that - that will say "Sorry sir, but we don't accept Discover". While I agree that acceptance levels have gone way up, there is still a gap between penetration rates of Discover and other major credit cards. Also, good luck if you leave the country. Discovery acceptance rates outside the US can be very low.

The Discover Network logo, only means it runs on the Discover Netowrk. Disocver Network USED to have a problem with non-acceptance, but the truth of the matter is inside the US it's accepted more than any other card. Fortune polled their top 500 companies and more of them took Discover Card than ANY other card. Discover Card adds, on average, 4,000+ merchants EVERY DAY. Visa and MC made it more expensive for merchants to accept them and Discover, there was a GIANT lawsuit and it no longer happens. Look hard, I can never find anywhere that takes credit cards but not Discover, ususally it's cash/check only, or it's all 4 credit cards. With the exception of Costco, they are exclusively AMEX or Debit when it comes to cards.

No, Victoria's Secret is a 'store card' which credit is only extended to clients to purchase their merchandise. You cannot use a Victoria's card to purchase items at another store, or gas or groceries. However Visa and Mastercard are just credit lines that can be used to pay for anything at any merchant that accepts credit card as a method of payment.
