Try getting a HP F380 All-In-One. It's what I use and it is perfect for everyday use. Try shopping in office depot last time I was in there they were on sale and the regular price was around$80 or $90

Not quite sure how much you want to spend but here are some tips to look for in a printer. The resolution of the print and the scan should be as high as you can get it for the amount you want to spend. I got a Canon all-in-one Pixima MP600 for about $299.00 it has a DPI resolution for print is 9600 x 4800 and it scans at 4800 x 2400 DPI. I printed off (full color photos) about 40 prints of 8 x 11 paper on a set of ink. The ink will always be more so try to get a printer that has separate wells for it's color. There is another for about $129.00 the Pixima MP150 that is pretty good as well. It has only 4800 x 2400 Print DPI and 2400 x 1200 for scan but nicely priced. I strongly suggest that you stay away from Lexmark and Brother although they are good priced machines they will crap out in about a year and the ink cost more than the printers. I sell printers for a living so I have seen many come and go. Stick with HP or Canon if you want a good machine.

Have played with computers since 1969. A Info tech professional from 1975-2004.
Since the start of the micro, I have always used HP printers and only had about 2 problems. For years, I used to bring a lot of work home, and did a lot of printing thru my system at home.
Last year I had a HP 4215 All-In-One. Thought I would try those refills kits you see for about $20 (cheaper than 1 HP refill). Everything worked fine the 1st three times I used the ink. But after the 4th refill the printer stopped working. Finally found a statement that the HP printer keeps track of the serial number inside the ink cartridge (why? to prevent you from refilling on your own?).
Switched to a HP 1510 xi All-In-One. Sometimes it has problems pulling in an envelope. The ink cartridges are even smaller than those in the 4215. But I'm doing a lot less printing these days, so it does okay.
Think the next time, I will switch to a Canon.

I have one, its currently under the table.
I bought it for about....
I think a little less than $60, which is quite cheap.
I got it at target, it was on sale. The..thing is:
HP DESKJET F300 SERIES.
It has a scanner, printer and copier.
Also, you can buy something somewhere and bring it into circuit city, which gurantees a cheaper price by 10% I think. At least where I live. (San Fernando Valley)

Here is my advise on buying any new printer. Don't worry about the cost of the printer. Worry about the cost of ink. If you want a free printer apple and dell and most major retailers would love to give you one. Knowing that you have to buy the ink from them.
Do the math, look at the number of pages expected per ink cartridge, for example 1000 pages, and look at the price: $50.00 that means that ink from that printer would be 5 cents per page per color. Now if another printer did 500 pages per cartridge and they where still $50.00, it would cost $.10 per page, double the cost. But the printer might be cheaper. So after a few thousand pages you may save $100.00 just by the cost of ink.
As far as an all in one, HP. anyone with wireless, camera memory slots and large enough size for your future needs and you should be happy.

I bought a Lexmark that is compatible for my HP. I hate the dam thing, constantly telling me it is out of paper and a paper jam when it is not so. Also makes crooked copies quite often. I have only had it 3 months and when I copy only half the page shows up now. I have not tried the scanner yet, can hardly wait. So get an HP and don't spare the expense.

If u elect a black-basically printer, you may decide for the low-end laserjet printers. they have black basically and the cost in keeping with website is noticeably low. The printers will value under $a hundred and the in strengthen value may well be greater than ink for the cartridge yet you get fairly some pages greater beneficial than whats available in inkjet cartridges. in the experience that your toddlers elect shade for projects, then you definately might desire to might desire to decide for a sort of printer-scanner-copier :)
